Keeping valuables in HDFC Bank will be expensive, prices will increase by 184%!

HDFC Bank is going to make changes in its safe deposit locker rental structure, in which a new Metro Plus category will be started and the annual charges will be increased according to the locker size. The updated rates will be applicable from April 1, 2026. Under the new framework, locker rent will vary depending on locker size and branch location classification – Metro Plus, Metro, Urban, Semi-Urban and Rural, along with 18% GST.

According to ET report, HDFC Bank has made its locker access rules more stringent after several incidents of theft in banks. Senior officials said it has made Aadhaar linked biometric authentication mandatory for all locker holders before granting access.

Locker rent may vary depending on the branch at the same location. Locker rent is charged annually and is taken in advance. Locker rent varies depending on the size of the locker and branch location. Locker rent is based on locker size and branch location classification. GST is not included in the current expenditure. The final total will include 18% GST charge.
