Ahead of the upcoming ODI Women`s World Cup, Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said that her side is focused on ending its third ICC trophy drought.
Kaur also said that she draws her inspiration from former Team India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
“We want to break that barrier which all Indians are waiting for. World Cups are always special, always want to do special for my country. Whenever I see Yuvi bhaiya (Yuvraj Singh) it gives me a lot of motivation,” she said at the trophy unveiling ceremony.
The Indian women`s team has never clinched a title, and their most successful run was during the 2017 ODI World Cup in , where they finished as runners-up.
Before the side engages in the global tournament, the `Women in Blue` will clash against Australia in a home series. The contest will kick start on September 14.
Speaking about the ODI series against the Aussies, the Indian skipper said that the series against them helps to know where we stand.
“Playing against is always challenging and we get to know what is our standing. The series (three ODIs vs Australia) will give us a lot of confidence. We have been putting a lot of effort in our training camps and the results are showing,” said the 36-year-old.
Harmanpreet Kaur had earlier delivered a match-winning knock of 171 runs in the semi-final against Australia in 2017. Recollecting her memories from the past, she said that despite the loss, a lot of people cheered for the team.
“That knock was something really special to me and entire women`s cricket. A lot of things changed for me after that knock. When we came back to India, even though we had lost, a lot of people were waiting and cheering for us. I still get goosebumps,” concluded Harmanpreet, who has so far played 135 ODIs for Team India.
