Kashi, the religious and cultural capital of Uttar Pradesh, has now become a symbol of economic progress, not just the center of faith. The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the mission of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath together have converted the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor into a project that has given a boost of Rs 1.25 lakh crore to the state’s economy. Since the inauguration in December 2021, 25 crore 28 lakh devotees have seen Baba Vishwanath. This figure not only reflects the success of tourism but also shows how Kashi has become the new model of India’s development.
Employment flood from corridor in Kashi
Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, said that after the construction of the corridor, there has been a tremendous bounce in Kashi’s economy. Local shopkeepers, sailors, priests, hotel traders and carts have got new employment opportunities. Every street of Kashi is now buzzing with employment and tourism, which has improved the economic condition of people.

Foreign tourists increased due to better security and connectivity
The Yogi government has developed better security arrangements in Kashi, beautification of ghats, and magnificent road connectivity from airport to ghat. Due to these changes, tourists from India and abroad are now reaching Kashi in large numbers. This religious tourism model has given Uttar Pradesh a new identity on the international stage.
Purvanchal’s development got new engine
According to Professor Rajnath, economist at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, every tourist spends an average of Rs 4,000 to 5,000. In these three years, on the basis of this expense, an estimated economic flow of Rs 1.25 lakh crore has been done in the state. This has gained momentum not only the economy of Kashi but also the economy of other districts of Purvanchal.
Increase in GDP of the entire state from religious places
According to the report, 70 percent of the devotees come from South India and 15 percent from other states. After darshan, these devotees often visit other religious places like Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Mathura, Chitrakoot, Naimisharanya. This produces a ‘Ripling Effect’ in the economy of the entire state, which has become a major cause of GDP growth.
Kashi becomes a model of national development
Chief Executive Officer Vishwa Bhushan Mishra said that the example of development Kashi under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi has now become a model of development for the whole country. The employment and tourism associated with the corridor have brought changes in the lives of millions of people.
New era of religious tourism from Ayodhya to Vindhyachal
