Kasba Assembly Elections 2025: Will Congress be able to win for the fourth time or will Majhi’s claim outweigh?

Kasba Assembly Elections 2025: This seat has been dominated by Afaq Alam of Congress since 2010, but will BJP-LJP or WE be able to shake this stronghold in 2025? Will the public trust Congress this time too or will the equations change?

Kasba Assembly Election 2025: Kasba Vidhan Sabha Seat is always considered special in the politics of Purnia district. The elections here take interesting turns every time because there is a close contest between Congress and BJP/LJP. Congress’s Mohammad Afaque Alam has won consecutively in the last three assembly elections (2010, 2015 and 2020) and this time in 2025, he will try to create a record by going beyond the hat-trick of victories for the fourth time. But the political tussle between the NDA and the Grand Alliance is making the contest mysterious this time too.

Will Congress win Kasba for the fourth time?

In 2020, Congress’s Afaq Alam defeated LJP candidate Pradeep Kumar Das by a huge margin of 17,278 votes. Afaq Alam got 77,410 votes while Pradeep got 60,132 votes. A triangular contest was also seen in this election, but the victory went to the Grand Alliance.

Note: Afaq Alam is a post graduate and a criminal case is registered against him. His total assets are around Rs 90 lakh and he also has liabilities of Rs 35 lakh.

Kasba elections 2015: tough fight between Congress-BJP

In 2015, Congress candidate Afaq Alam defeated BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Das by a very slim margin (1,794 votes). Afaq got 81,633 votes and Pradeep got 79,839 votes. This match was very exciting and counterattacks were seen at every stage.

2010 elections: Congress’s comeback

In 2010, Congress returned to Kasba seat after a long time. Afaq Alam defeated Pradeep Kumar Das of BJP. Afaq got 63,025 votes while Pradeep got 58,570 votes. That means the competition was always close.

2005 and before: BJP’s dominance

In 2005 and before, BJP and Pradeep Kumar Das dominated the Kasba seat. He had also won in 1995 and 2000. But the situation changed from 2010 and Congress registered consecutive victories.

Ethnic and political importance of the town

Kushwaha, Yadav, Muslim, upper caste and Dalit-tribal voters play a decisive role in Kasba Assembly. This is the reason why the equations change in every election. This time Manjhi’s party HAM has also staked claim, due to which the contest has become more complicated.
