Who is Karva Mata?
There is a popular story related to Karva Mata, according to which, ‘Once upon a time, a devoted woman named Karva lived in a village. One day when her husband was bathing in the river, he was caught by a crocodile. Karva, with the power of her penance, caught the crocodile with a cotton thread and took it to Yamraj. There Yamraj sent the crocodile to Yamalok and blessed her husband with a long life. Chitragupta also blessed Karva, ‘The woman who observes the fast of Karva Chauth, her good fortune will remain unbroken. For this reason this fast was named Karva Chauth.
