When Karva Chauth came for the first time after marriage, she also observed this fast in Veeravati for the long life of her husband. Veeravati was brought up in a lot of comforts and luxuries, due to which she could not bear hunger and thirst for long and became unconscious. Seeing his sister in such a condition, her brothers got very scared.
He devised a solution and lit a torch behind a tree, declaring that the moon had risen. Following the advice of her brothers, Veeravati considered her fast complete and had food. By doing this Veeravati’s husband died. Later, Veeravati became very sad after knowing the truth.
Veeravati gave up food and water in mourning for her husband. On the same night, Shachi, wife of Devraj Indra, came to earth. When he saw Veeravati in this condition, he asked the reason for it. Then Veeravati told him the whole thing.
Indrani said, ‘Next time you observe Karva Chauth fast again, with the effect of that fast I will bring your husband back to life.’ Veeravati did the same, due to which her husband came back to life. After this, with the grace of Indrani, Veeravati enjoyed marital happiness for a long time.
Therefore, every married woman must observe the fast of Karva Chauth and also listen to this story. Due to the effect of this fast, the husband’s life gets longer and there is happiness and prosperity in the family.
