Aday after crossing major milestones at the Indian box office, Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu witnessed a noticeable slowdown in its theatrical run.
The film, which recently surpassed the lifetime collections of Vijay’s Varisu and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan II to become the ninth highest-grossing Tamil film in India, saw a sharp dip on its 18th day. Despite a strong weekend performance, weekday numbers have softened significantly. According to estimates, the RJ Balaji directorial continues its overall strong run, but Day 18 collections indicate a slight dip after a powerful theatrical streak.
Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 18: Suriya Starrer Sees Dip After Crossing Major Milestones
Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu experienced a notable drop in box office performance on its 18th day. According to estimates, the film collected Rs 2.40 crore India net on Day 18, marking a 59.3 percent decline compared to its Day 17 earnings of Rs 5.90 crore. This comes just a day after the film achieved a major milestone by surpassing the lifetime collections of Vijay’s Varisu and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan II.

Despite the slowdown, Karuppu continues to post strong cumulative numbers. The film’s India net total now stands at Rs 184.85 crore, while the India gross collection has reached Rs 213.75 crore. On Day 18, the film was screened across 3,141 shows nationwide. The Tamil version remained the main contributor, earning Rs 2.05 crore, while the Telugu version (Veerabhadrudu) added Rs 35 lakh. Tamil occupancy stood at 20.85 percent, with night shows performing best at 24 percent. The Telugu occupancy was recorded at 10.33 percent.
Overseas and Regional Performance Of Karuppu
The film’s overseas performance also added to its global total, with Rs 50 lakh collected on Day 18. The total overseas earnings have now reached Rs 78.25 crore, taking the worldwide gross to Rs 292 crore. Regionally, Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 2.10 crore, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana added Rs 45 lakh. Karnataka and Kerala collected Rs 11 lakh and Rs 9 lakh respectively.
RJ Balaji’s wife praises him
Following the film’s successful run, director RJ Balaji’s wife Divya Nagarajan shared unseen BTS images, expressing pride in her husband’s achievement and calling the journey a “full circle moment,” mentioning about the personal significance of the blockbuster success.

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu is a mythological mass entertainer featuring Suriya as Saravanan, a lawyer who embodies the human avatar of the deity Karuppusamy. The story revolves around a divine force that takes legal form to challenge corruption and protect a young girl in need of a liver transplant. The film also stars Trisha Krishnan, along with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, and Supreeth Reddy in key roles.
