Kartik Purnima 2025 Date: Kartik Purnima is considered a very auspicious and holy day in Hindu religion. It is believed that by taking holy bath, donating and worshiping God on this day, one gets freedom from sins and attains happiness and prosperity. Dev Diwali is also celebrated on this day. It is said that on the night of Kartik Purnima the gods themselves descend on earth. Special worship of Lord Vishnu (Lakshmi-Narayan) and Lord Shiva is done on this day. Lighting a lamp also has special significance. This brings positive energy, good luck and prosperity to the house.

As per Udaya Tithi, Kartik Purnima will be celebrated on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. Purnima Tithi will start from 10:36 PM on 4th November 2025 and will continue till 6:48 PM on 5th November 2025. The auspicious time for bathing in Ganga and donating is from sunrise (4:52 am) to 5:44 am. On this auspicious occasion, donating lamps, worshiping Tulsi, bathing in Ganga and donating to the needy brings virtue. After this, the auspicious time of morning puja will start from 7:58 am for 20 minutes, ending at 9:20 am. The auspicious time for evening puja during Pradosh period will be from 5:15 pm to 6:05 pm.

Importance of Kartik Purnima

Bathing has special significance on the day of Kartik Purnima. Taking bath in Ganga on this day destroys sins. There is also a belief that by bathing in the Ganga on this day, one attains salvation and the troubles of life go away. Therefore, after bathing, special worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi is done. Donating after bathing brings prosperity.

Offer water to Sun God after bath

First of all, wake up early in the morning and take bath. If possible, take bath in Ganga or any other holy river. After bathing, offer water (Arghya) to the Sun God and seek his blessings. After this, spread a yellow cloth on a platform at the place of worship. Install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on it. Purify the idol with Ganga water or clean water. Now, offer flowers, garland, rice, turmeric, kumkum and akshat. Light a lamp and perform Aarti of God with incense sticks. Recite Vishnu Chalisa or Lakshmi Chalisa. Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Narayanay” or “Om Lakshmiyye Namah” is considered very auspicious.

Donating on Kartik Purnima is considered extremely auspicious and virtuous. Donating after bath and worship on this day brings happiness, prosperity and peace in life. It is said in the scriptures, “Daanam Tapo Dharmah Sarvesham”, that is, giving is the greatest virtue. Donation made on this day gives manifold results and one receives special blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. On this day you can donate food, clothes, sweets, lamps, oil or ghee, basil plant and metal or earthen utensils to the needy.
