Kartik Purnima 2025: How devotees benefit from bathing at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar; it brings relief from life’s three sufferings

Haridwar: Kartik Purnima, one of the most sacred full moon days in the Hindu calendar, is being celebrated this year on Wednesday, November 5. On this day, thousands of devotees from across the country are gathering at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar to take a holy dip in the Ganges.

According to the Vedic Samvat calendar, there are 12 full moons in a year, each with its own spiritual importance. But the full moon in the month of Kartik is considered the most powerful and fruitful. Scriptures say that bathing in the Ganges on Kartik Purnima, especially at pilgrimage sites like Haridwar, helps one overcome three types of suffering—physical, divine, and material.

Kartik Purnima is a day of spiritual cleansing

Pandit Shridhar Shastri, a respected religious leader in Haridwar, explains that Kartik Purnima is a day of spiritual cleansing. “Bathing in the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri while chanting mantras of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Mother Ganga brings relief from physical pain, natural calamities, and worldly troubles,” he says.

He further adds that the act of bathing in the Ganges on this day offers three special benefits:

Darshan of Mother Ganga

Holy dip in the river

Sipping Ganga water

These three actions are believed to cure diseases, wash away sins, and bring divine blessings. “It is said that one who performs these rituals with devotion receives the grace of Shiva, Vishnu, and Ganga,” Pandit Shastri explains.

Spiritual energy of Haridwar is especially strong on Kartik Purnima

The spiritual energy of Haridwar is especially strong in Kartik Purnima. Devotees light lamps, offer prayers, and perform charity. The atmosphere at Har Ki Pauri becomes vibrant with chants, rituals, and the sound of temple bells.

Pandit Shastri emphasizes that Mother Ganga holds the highest significance in Haridwar. Bathing here is considered life-purifying and is believed to absolve one of sins from many lifetimes. “Taking a dip on Kartik Purnima not only brings peace to the soul but also fills life with new energy and positivity,” he says.

Kartik Purnima is not just a day of worship—it’s a chance to reconnect with faith, seek blessings, and experience the spiritual essence of Haridwar.
