Simple puja method of Kartik Purnima (Kartik Purnima Puja Vidhi)

Bathing, donation, lamp donation and worship have special significance on Kartik Purnima. On the day of Kartik Purnima, wake up before sunrise and take bath in Ganga or any holy river/reservoir. If it is not possible to go to the river, then take bath at home by mixing Ganga water in the bath water and remember all the holy rivers. After bathing, wear clean clothes. Offer water to the Sun God while chanting the mantra ‘Om Suryay Namah’. Install the statue or picture of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi on the pedestal in the home temple.

Offer incense, lamp, naivedya (offering). Be sure to include Tulsi leaves in the offering. Reciting or listening to the story of Lord Satyanarayan on this day is very auspicious. In the evening, a lamp should be lit on a river bank or near a temple, Peepal tree or Tulsi plant near the house. When the moon rises at night, offer Arghya to the moon by mixing milk and water in a copper or steel pot and pray to him for happiness and prosperity.

Significance of Kartik Purnima

Kartik Purnima is considered very sacred and virtuous in the scriptures. The results of bathing and donation done on this day are manifold.

Dev Diwali: There is a mythological belief that on this day all the gods and goddesses come to earth and celebrate Diwali. Therefore, on this day, thousands of lamps are lit especially on the Ganga ghats, which is called Dev Deepawali.

Sins are destroyed: It is believed that by taking bath in the holy river, especially Ganga, on the day of Kartik Purnima, all the sins of a person are washed away and he attains salvation.

Victory of Lord Shiva: On this day, Lord Shiva had killed the demon named Tripurasura, due to which it is also called Tripurari Purnima.

Blessings of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi: This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. On this day, by listening to the story of Lord Satyanarayan and worshiping it, wishes are fulfilled and shortage of money and grains is removed.
