Inter-Caste Marriage Attack: A shocking incident came to light during a mass wedding ceremony in Koppal district of Karnataka on Wednesday. Here a pregnant woman was fatally attacked by her brother with an axe. Due to this the woman bled. Instead of celebrating with the pregnant sister, the guests present there were stunned to see this dreadful step taken by the brother. The police arrived on information and caught the accused. During interrogation, the reason given by the accused brother for the attack is very shocking.
Why was the pregnant woman attacked?
The matter is of Handrala village, where woman Meenakshi had gone with her husband Uday Kumar to attend her brother’s wedding on Thursday. According to the police, Meenakshi had a love marriage with Uday Kumar a year ago. This was an inter-caste marriage of both. After marriage, the couple moved to Bengaluru and their family cut off contact with them. Meenakshi’s family was strongly against this marriage.
Meanwhile, Meenakshi had arrived with her husband on Thursday to attend her second brother’s wedding. Her brother Manjunath (35) came to know that she was present at the wedding. Due to which, in anger, Lala Manjunath reached there with an ax and started attacking Meenakshi directly. Meenakshi was four months pregnant and suffered serious injuries. The people present there intervened and somehow stopped the attack.
Police action and condition of the woman
Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi said that the injured woman has been admitted to the government hospital in the district. Officials said the woman’s condition is stable. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and the accused Manjunath has been arrested. The investigation of the case is still going on.
