Karnataka Police have launched an investigation into the death of 24-year-old Arjun Mahesh, the elder brother of a NEET aspirant who died by suicide earlier, after he was found hanging in a hotel room near Mangaluru Airport.
Arjun, a native of Kasaragod and reportedly working as an automobile engineer in Dubai, was found dead on Monday afternoon inside a room at Sky Grand Empire Hotel in Maravoor, under the jurisdiction of Kavoor Police Station.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said Arjun was the son of K. Radhika and Mahesh of Mukkood in Pallikkara. He had returned to India but had not gone home, prompting his relatives to search for him in Mangaluru.
The search ended at the hotel, where his body was found. Police also recovered a brief note addressed to his mother and two friends. The note reportedly said: “Amma, I’m sorry, inform friends.”
Police are examining the circumstances preceding his death and have said that statements of family members and friends will be recorded as part of the investigation.
Arjun was the elder brother of 19-year-old Aija R. Mahesh, who died by suicide in Kerala on June 2. A NEET aspirant, Aija was preparing for the re-examination after the National Testing Agency cancelled the earlier examination following allegations of a question paper leak.
Aija had been found hanging in a hostel in Pala. Her mother had earlier said that she was confident of securing good marks but was distressed following the cancellation of the examination and announcement of a re-test.
Police are continuing the probe to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Arjun’s death.
