Mandya: A young couple was found dead in their home in KR Pet in Mandya district of Karnataka on Monday, in a suspected case of suicide. The bodies were discovered by the deceased man’s brother, who immediately informed the police.
The victims have been identified as Darshan, 29, a driver by profession, and his wife Divya, 25, who worked as an agent with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
The couple is survived by their two-year-old daughter, who was present in the same room when the bodies were found. Police said the child is safe and currently out of danger.
No suicide note recovered
Police officials said no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that the couple had been dealing with financial problems and family disputes.
An investigating officer told TIE, “Initial probe revealed that the couple was facing some financial and family disputes. Divya killed herself first, and then Darshan died by suicide. We do not know whether Darshan was present at home when Divya died. We are probing it.”
Investigators are now trying to determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
According to police, Darshan reportedly called his brother shortly before his death and informed him that Divya had died. During the conversation, he also indicated that he intended to take his own life.
After receiving the call, the brother rushed to the house, where he found the couple’s bodies and alerted the cops.
Police are also examining the possibility that the couple may have attempted to harm their daughter before their deaths.
Officials said the child had minor marks around her neck.
“There are some scratch marks around the neck of the child. But there were no visible strangulation marks. We can only ascertain after a medical examination. As we speak, the child is doing well and is out of danger,” the officer said.
The local police have registered a case of unnatural death and have launched an investigation to establish the exact circumstances behind the incident.
