Captain Vikram Batra’s father Girdhari Lal Batra says, 26 years have passed, but even today, the last words of Vikram did not come out of the mind. He is still alive for us today. Every year the date of 26 July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Day. On this day, especially the people of Chandigarh are proud of the martyrdom of Vikram Batra.
Bhagat Singh used to tell stories of Veer Shivaji
The Kargil war that fought in the year 1999 is still in everyone’s mind. Captain Vikram Batra is a name that became immortal forever. Batra was martyred on July 7, 1999 while fighting bravely during the Fatah of Point 4875. The story of his father son’s martyrdom, Yadav says, it was the day of July 8 when the news of the son’s martyrdom was received. It is difficult to describe that pain, sorrow and martyrdom in words. When Vikram’s body reached Palampur, his mother bravely took over every sad moment and encouraged the family.
He says, the more brave the mother’s heart is, the more polite for children. In the year 2024, Vikram’s mother also passed away, but in this world, the memories of Vikram were kept alive in our family and took forward the family with freshly.

During a conversation with TV9, he told, Vikram’s brother Vishal who wanted to go to the army after his martyrdom, but could not go due to overseas. Vishal has two children. He says, if he wants to go to the army, we will send it very happily. I used to listen to the stories of Bhagat Singh, Veer Shivaji’s Guru Gobindji from Vikram. He had a passion for patriotism since childhood.
Impressed by army officers
He says, due to studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya, he was very impressed with the army officers, due to which he decided to go to the army. I also wanted to become an officer in the army, but my selection could not be done. But Vikram fulfilled my dream by becoming an army officer.
Vikram Batra’s father Girdhari Lal was a principal in a government school in Palampur and mother teacher. After having two daughters, two twin sons were Vikram and Vishal. In the house, Vikram was lovingly called love and Vishal was called happy.
Vikram Batra read from DAV College. His junior Digvijay says, when he went to college for the first time on June 2 in 2004, we came to know that we are studying in the college where he studied. Even today every child here remembers him.

Father narrated the story of Vikram’s love
Vikram’s father Girdhari said, when Vikram was studying Punjab University, he fell in love with a girl named Dimple from Chandigarh. The love of both was so unbreakable that Dimple has not married till date. She reached Palampur for Vikram’s ultra rites. Although both of us families explained a lot, but they did not listen to marriage. Even today she comes to our house.
He says, Batra was the signature of success, this heart mange peacock. He got a lot of respect. I feel very proud that he is my son.
Since 1984, Ramakant has been running a juice shop at DAV College. He narrates an anecdote remembering Vikram with moist eyes. Said, both brothers were twins. When one used to drink juice, the other used to pay. After a long time it was learned that both are twins. Vikram lived here in hostels and did wonders in cricket. When Vikram’s martyrdom was heard on TV, just kept crying.
