Kareena Kapoor Recalled Childhood Sridevi Dance Memories on ‘Rendezvous With Simi Garewal’

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, a self-proclaimed Sridevi fan, once reminisced about her childhood fascination with the legendary actress.

During a 2002 appearance on ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’, Bebo shared how she would enthusiastically dance to Sridevi’s popular songs long before her foray into the film industry.

Host Simi Garewal prompted Kareena, recalling, “I believe you used to wear your mom’s nightie and you used to do Sridevi numbers.” Kareena confirmed this, adding that her mother, Babita, would often record these impromptu performances with a video camera. “Ohh God. Yes, and my mom used to be with me with a video camera, standing, and I remember I used to be dancing to it,” she chuckled.

When asked about specific songs, Kareena mentioned her love for “all her old songs.” She specifically recalled “Icecream Khaoge” (from the 1983 film ‘Himmatwala’ starring Sridevi and Jeetendra) and other classics like “Aap Jaisa Koi” (from the 1980 film ‘Qurbani’, though Sridevi was not in it, it was a popular dance number of that era) and “Meri Zindagi Main Aaye” (from ‘Banjaran’, 1991). “I used to try and be like, you know, like those old Hindi heroines, and my mom used to be with a video camera, ‘Ohh no, look right, look left’,” she added, highlighting her mother’s role as her first director.

Kareena also revealed that the iconic ‘I Love You’ song from Sridevi’s 1987 blockbuster ‘Mr. India’ was her ‘dream song’. After making her debut with ‘Refugee’ in 2000, Kareena went on to establish a successful career with films like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Jab We Met’, and ‘3 Idiots’, among many others, continuing to entertain audiences for over two decades.
