When it comes to food, Kareena Kapoor Khan is the ultimate advocate for home-cooked meals.
Recently, at the book launch of her nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, the Jab We Met star spoke about her love for khichdi and how she and her husband, Saif Ali Khan, have started actively cooking their own meals. She also reflected on her relationship with food and how she followed a vegetarian diet for a certain period.
Speaking at the event, Kareena revealed that whenever she works with Rujuta, she adopts a vegetarian diet and finds that simple meals significantly transform her body and skin. “She is pro-vegetarian and when we work together, I am pure vegetarian. My body and face transformed during that time, so I have had experiences with that and with her. My relationship with food is easy and simple in the last 10-15 years. I just go back to the same food and I am happy with it. I don’t want to experiment with it, it is comforting and makes me feel happy,” she said.
When Kareena was asked about indulging in pizzas and sourdough breads, she admitted that though she loves eating multiple types of cuisines, she finds herself returning to home-cooked meals. She said, “I have eaten all of that but I don’t feel good about it. When I am at home and eat simple meals, I don’t care what it is but I feel like a zillion bucks. There is nothing like a home-cooked meal after a hard day. Saif and I have started cooking, we enjoy it.” When asked who is a better cook among them, she answered, “Saif is a better cook,” and added that she can barely boil an egg. She also said that her chef gets frustrated after making the same meals over and over for her.
Talking about her love for khichdi, she said, “My comfort food is khichdi and if I don’t have it for 2-3 days, I start craving it. I message her if there isn’t khichdi in the diet, I can’t sleep in the night.” At the event, Kareena also lauded her mother-in-law and veteran actor Sharmila Tagore for her simplicity and revealed the secret behind her charm and beauty at this age. “She eats toori and lauki everyday. Simple ghar ka khana,” she said.
