Recalling an incident after the release of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he said that his father was “rooted, basic and very funny.” KJo also joked about his “hyper raja beta delusions.” He got emotional as he recalled his father’s last days and the period when he was on ventilator support. The filmmaker revealed that he had made a promise to his “papa.”

On father Yash Johar’s birth anniversary, recalled how his father humorously reacted to the designer jacket he bought after released, joking that it was “Burberry nahi, bahut buri.” He said that the incident reflected his father’s nature.
He added, “He was also my biggest fan. Even when I looked like I had eaten an entire country and was trying for over an hour to zip myself into very stretched pants, he would say, ‘puppy fat hai…chala jayega…’ And then on many occasions he would say, ‘Tu itna handsome hai – hero ban ja! Horse riding kyun nahi seekhta?!‘ Can you imagine me horse riding on Juhu beach??? Or being a mainstream hero??? My mother always took me aside after papa’s hyper raja beta delusions and brought me back to earth…”

Karan Johar Recalls Promise He Made In His Last Days
recalled that his father was his hero and remembered his values, kindness and selflessness. He shared how Yash, during his final days, asked him to always remain kind and care for his mother. He revealed, “When he was on the ventilator and I knew there wasn’t a ray of hope I knew something was stopping him from travelling to the other side, I whispered in his ear, ‘Papa I will take care of mom like a parent and a child… I promise.'”
said that his father passed away shortly after, making him believe that he had perhaps been waiting to hear that promise from him. “He left a void in my life 22 years ago that I refuse to fill… and I never will… When you lose a parent, you gain a god. He is my god. I pray to him every day. What a blessing that is for me… Miss you, papa… every day,” penned the director and wished his father a happy heavenly birthday with throwback photos.
