Chhath Puja 2025 is dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. Inspired by the story of Surya son Karna, this grand festival is especially celebrated in Bihar and Purvanchal. Karna established the tradition by worshiping Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.
Chhath Puja 2025: The great festival of Chhath is going on. This festival is dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. Today is the second day of this great festival. Have to eat today. Arghya will be offered to the setting sun tomorrow. On the fourth day, i.e. the last day, Arghya will be offered to the rising sun, after which the festival will conclude. Many legends and stories are prevalent regarding this great festival. A story of this great festival is also related to Surya’s son Karna.
Karna is counted among the great warriors of Mahabharata. Even today people take inspiration from Karna’s bravery, generosity and dedication to religion. Karna was the son of Suryadev. Mother Kunti had chanted mantras dedicated to Sun God. Mother Kunti gave birth to Karna by chanting the Surya Mantra, but due to fear of social stigma, Kunti threw Karna into the river. Karna had the blessings and divinity of Sun God.

The Sun God provided him with 1,000 pieces of armor and divine earrings, which protected him. Because of this boon, Dambhodbhava started considering himself immortal and started committing atrocities. Then Nara and Narayana performed penance and broke 999 armors of Dambhodbhava.

When the demon had only one armor left, he hid in Surya Loka. Seeing his devotion, Surya Dev gave him a boon that he would be his son in the next life. Later, when Karna grew up, he befriended Duryodhana, who granted him the Anga region. This area was spread in the area around Bhagalpur and Munger of present-day Bihar. It was here that Karna saw Chhath Puja for the first time.

Karna performed Chhath Puja
Karna was the son of Surya. Understanding the importance of Chhath Puja, he started Surya Namaskar and offering Arghya to the Sun every morning. He also praised Chhathi Maiya. Thus, during the Mahabharata period, the tradition of Chhath Puja became permanently prevalent in Bihar and Purvanchal and Karna became its medium.
