Actor and comedian Kapil Sharma has come out in support of singer Daler Mehndi amid recent criticism over allegations that the singer performed under the influence of alcohol. Kapil urged people to be more compassionate, revealing that Daler had undergone serious surgery, a detail he said many people were unaware of.
The host of The Great Indian Kapil Show took to Instagram Stories to remind people that they often do not know what others may be going through and should therefore treat one another with greater kindness.
Sharing his message on Instagram, Kapil wrote, “@thedalermehndiofficial paaji went through some serious surgery which people don’t know. All we need is to be little kinder towards other. We don’t know what someone is going through. (sic)”
Kapil also praised singer Mika Singh, Daler Mehndi’s younger brother, for defending him and addressing the controversy.
“Thank you @m ikasingh paaji for the clarification. May god bless Daler paaji (halo and folded hands emojis) we love you Daler paaji (Red heart and folded hands emoticons) (sic),” Kapil wrote.
On Tuesday, Mika Singh came to his elder brother’s defence, saying he would quit singing if anyone could prove that Daler Mehndi consumes alcohol.
In a video shared on his official social media account, Mika questioned the allegations and asked whether anyone had ever seen Daler holding a glass of alcohol or serving alcohol freely at his birthday parties.
Mika also explained that artists sometimes honour professional commitments despite being unwell. He said performers may agree to shows and go ahead with them even when they have a high fever, adding that Daler may similarly have fulfilled a commitment despite not feeling well.
The controversy has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding Daler Mehndi’s performance, with Kapil’s message highlighting the importance of empathy and caution against judging others without knowing their personal circumstances.
