Kanwar Yatra 2026: Like every year, thousands of devotees are preparing to undertake the Kanwar Yatra during the holy month of Sawan. The Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory for commuters to ensure smooth movement during the holy Yatra.
According to the traffic advisory, several roads across the capital city will witness major restrictions and diversions from July 29 to August 12.
The Kanwar Yatra
The holy Yatra officially begins on July 30, which is the first day of Shravan, the fifth month of the Hindu calendar and concludes on August 11. Thousands of Kanwariyas are likely to participate in the holy Yatra and pass through the capital city en route to Haryana and Rajasthan. During the Yatra, the Kanwariyas will collect the Ganga water from Haridwar, Gangotri Dham and Gaumukh.
The Shravan month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is observed from July to September.
Traffic Restrictions
The Delhi Police has imposed restrictions and diversions to facilitate safe movement of Kanwariyas and maintain smooth traffic flow. Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of heavy transport vehicles on Wazirabad Road, GT Road, Vikas Marg and adjoining roads.
The restrictions will come into force from July 29 to August 12, 2026.

Heavy Vehicles To Face Diversions
Heavy vehicles entering Delhi and heading towards UP will be restricted from entering through Maharajpur Border, Apsara/Seemapuri Border, DLF Border, Bhopura Border, Loni Border, Pusta Road and Sonia Vihar Border.
Vehicles entering the capital city through Pusta Road and Sonia Vihar Border for East, North-East and Shahdara districts will be diverted to Wazirabad Road, Outer Ring Road and NH-9.
Vehicles entering from GT Karnal Road and Outer Ring Road and moving towards East Delhi, North-East and Shahdara will be diverted to NH-9 instead of Wazirabad Road, GT Road or Vikas Marg. Heavy vehicles moving from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh will be diverted through NH-9 or NH-44.
Who Is Exempt From The Restrictions?
As per the traffic advisory, the restrictions will be applied to heavy transport and commercial vehicles. City buses have been exempted from all the restrictions.
Delhi Police Issued Advice For Commuters
Delhi Traffic Police has requested daily commuters to avoid the above-mentioned routes during the peak hours. The commuters can use the alternative roads to avoid the traffic snarls. People travelling to railway stations and airports should check traffic updates before starting their journey.
