New Delhi: Politics has intensified over setting up of Kanwar camps in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleges that they have been setting up camps for Kanwariyas for the last several years. However, this time Delhi Police is not allowing them to set up Kanwar camps and neither the Delhi government is setting up camps for the devotees.
State President of Aam Aadmi Party Saurabh Bhardwaj said in a press conference that there is a tradition of bringing water from river Ganga and offering it to Lord Shiva in North India during the month of Shravan.
“Thousands of devotees take Gangajal and offer it to Lord Shiva. The Aam Aadmi Party government conducted the job of setting up and managing the Kanwar camps. The main expenses of the Kanwar camps being set up were borne by the government, and the Kanwar committee just served the devotees and arranged for the prasad,” said Bhardwaj.
He also asked if the Kanwar committee belonged to a specific party. He said the AAP government didn’t care about who was setting up the camp and helped the Kanwar committee unconditionally. Bhardwaj added that there used to be two Kanwar camps in his assembly. “BJP also used to set up one camp, we used to do their work too, we did not try to take over,” he added.
He further said that BJP is playing dirty politics in the matter. “BJP government said that they will not install tents and lights, and will only give the money. There is a lot of trouble among Kanwar committees regarding this. The BJP government said that they will transfer the money in the account. However, they have not given the money yet. Additionally, they are not allowing other parties to set up Kanwar camps in the city,” added Bhardwaj.
