Story of Kamada Ekadashi fast
In ancient times, there was a city named Bhagipur, its king was Pundarik. In the same city there lived two Gandharva men and women named Lalit and Lalita who were very proficient in singing. They loved each other very much. Once Gandharva Lalit was singing in the court of King Pundarika. Then he remembered his beloved Lalita, due to which he got distracted and started singing impure songs.

Seeing this happening, King Pundarika got very angry and cursed Lalit, ‘You will suffer the consequences of your deeds by becoming a man-eating monster.’ Gandharva Lalit became a demon at that very moment and started suffering various kinds of sorrows. Lalita felt very sad to see such a condition of her beloved. She started thinking of various ideas for the salvation of her husband. Here Lalit became a demon and started committing many types of sins.
Once Lalita, following her husband, reached Vindhyachal mountain, there she saw the ashram of Shringi Muni. Lalita narrated her entire plight to Shringi Muni and asked for a solution to get rid of this crisis. Then Shringi Muni said, ‘You fast on Kamada Ekadashi of Chaitra month, this can solve your problems. On the advice of the sage, Lalita observed a fast on Kamada Ekadashi.
Lalita gave the virtuous fruit of this fast to her husband Lalit, due to which he got freedom from this demonic form and he again became as beautiful as before. After death, both Lalit and Lalita boarded Pushpak Viman and went to Vishnuloka. In this way, due to the effect of this fast, both of them attained salvation.
