What is the meaning of Kalpavas?
The word Kalpa means a certain period or period, while Vas means to reside somewhere. Spiritually, Kalpavas is a practice in which a person keeps distance from worldly attractions, pleasures and illusions for some time. At this time the person remains engrossed only in the worship of God. In the scriptures this is called moving from a householder to renunciation.
According to tradition, Kalpavas starts from the full moon day of Pausha month. However, devotees perform Kalpavas according to their capacity. Kalpavas is always done with a resolution. Devotees can also take pledge for 05, 11 and 21 days.
Rules and method of Kalpavas
Kalpavas is considered a difficult spiritual discipline. It is not just about living on the banks of Ganga. During the time of Kalpavas, Kalpavasi live by building huts on the banks of the river. During this time they stay away from worldly pleasures. During this period, Kalpavasi consume food prepared by himself only once. That food is also completely satvik. Every day worship is done in Brahma Muhurta and after bathing in Ganga three times.
Kalpavasi give up pleasures and luxuries and lie down on the ground. Follow celibacy in mind, words and deeds. During this period, intoxication, anger, lying and harsh words are completely prohibited. During this period Tulsi puja is performed regularly. Bhajan-kirtan, satsang of saints and religious texts are read.
