Nag Ashwin Spills The Beans About Kalki 2’s Sequel

Director Nag Ashwin has shared an update on the film’s sequel. He stated that the wait might be longer than expected due to the scale of the project. He said “The actors have to come together. Some of the pre-visualized sequences and action sequences are much bigger. So it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer. Everyone is busy,” he added.

Nag Ashwin went on to say that while the shoot will take some time, the post-production usually takes longer. “Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that’s what I think,” he concluded, hinting that fans will have to wait longer to witness the mega spectacle on the big screens.

Previously at the 10th-anniversary celebration of his debut Yevade Subramanyam, Nag Ashwin confirmed that preparations for the much-awaited sequel Kalki are underway and that the film will begin shooting in December 2025.

Further, in an update that has thrilled fans of Prabhas, the director also said that the second part of the franchise will feature Prabhas (the first film focused more on the character arcs of Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan’s characters). “The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters,” said Nag Ashwin.

The film features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic, and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

Kalki 2898 AD was scheduled to release on 9 May 2024, but was postponed due to unfinished post-production work. It was released worldwide on 27 June 2024 in standard, IMAX, and 3D formats. With a budget of Rs 600 crore it is one of the most expensive Indian films made.

The film became the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 and the fourth highest-grossing Telugu film. It also won the Telangana Gaddar Film Award for Best Feature Film.
