When the festival of Kajri Teej of Bhadrapada month came, the Brahmin told her husband that today his Kajri is a fast of Teej and he needs gram sattu for worship.

The Brahmin got very upset, because he had no money to buy Sattu. He told his wife, “I don’t have money to buy Sattu, what should I do?” On this, the wife strongly said, “You do anything, whether stealing or robbing, but bring me Sattu.” The Brahmin was very sad to hear the wife, but he wanted to make his fast successful. At night, he secretly entered a moneylender shop. He made Sattu with a quarter kilo gram, ghee and sugar from there and started going home. At the same time, the moneylender’s servants woke up and made a noise of a thief.

The moneylender woke up and caught the Brahmin. The Brahmin told the whole thing to the moneylender without scared and said that he is not a thief, but has come to take Sattu for his wife’s fast. He prayed to the moneylender to search him once. When the moneylender searched the Brahmin, he found nothing more than Sattu. Seeing the truth of the Brahmin and his love for his wife, the moneylender’s eyes were filled. He not only gave the Brahmin sattu, but also considered his wife as his religion sister and also presented him with jewelry, money and sixteen adornments.

The Brahmin happily returned home with all the goods. He told the whole thing to his wife. Both of them worshiped Kajri Mata with full devotion. Due to the grace of mother, happiness and prosperity came to her house and the sufferings of her life went away. According to the legend, just as Kajri’s mother’s grace turns on the days of that poor Brahmin, in the same way, whoever does this fast with a true heart, she gets blessings of unbroken good luck and happiness and prosperity.

Worship method of Kajri Teej fast

Women take a bath in the morning and take a pledge to fast on this day. Neem dali is installed on a mud or wooden post, which is worshiped as the form of Goddess Parvati. Wheat, gram, sattu and honeymoon are offered. Nirjala or fruit fasting is kept throughout the day. Aarti is performed after listening and narrating the fast story in the evening and the fast is broken by drinking water from the husband’s hand.
