Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026: How to apply; dates, routes and prices | Details

New Delhi: The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to take place between June and August, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Thursday, April 30. A total of 20 batches are scheduled for the Yatra, which will be conducted in coordination with the Chinese government.

The applications to register for the Yatra are open on the official website (kmy.gov.in). The registration and selection process for the pilgrimage is fully digital, as MEA said that applicants do not need to send faxes or physical letters.

“Kailash Mansarovar Yatra organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in coordination with the Government of the People’s Republic of China is set to take place during June to August,” the MEA said in a statement.

The selection will be conducted via a computer-generated process with fair, random, and gender-balanced criteria.

10 batches, each comprising 50 Yatris, will be scheduled to travel through Uttarakhand state crossing over at Lipulekh Pass, while another 10 batches will move through Sikkim state crossing over at Nathu La Pass.

The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra holds religious value and cultural significance, with hundreds of pilgrims taking part in the journey every year. The yatra holds religious importance for the Jains and the Buddhists.

Between 2020 and 2024, the Yatra was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but to normalise the relations between India and China, the efforts to conduct the Yatra after five years were successful, as 750 pilgrims participated in last year’s Yatra.

UP CM gave Rs 1 lakh each to 555 pilgrims last year

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to 555 pilgrims last year. Yogi said that devotees of Uttar Pradesh didn’t have to face any problems, and it is for the Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan constructed in Ghaziabad in 2017-18.

“The government’s effort has been to ensure that devotees receive good facilities at every pilgrimage site. In 2025, more than 164 crore devotees visited various religious sites across Uttar Pradesh, of which approximately 66 crore participated in the Prayagraj Mahakumbh alone,” he added.

The applicants could register for both routes, indicating priority, or select one route. The last date for registration for the yatra is May 19.
