Kaantha Storyline, Cast, and Crew

The film, set against the backdrop of 1950s Madras, follows the turbulent professional relationship between veteran filmmaker Ayya and actor T. K. Mahadevan, an artiste whose rise Ayya had once facilitated. Their differences deepen when Mahadevan alters the title of a women-centric film from Shaantha to Kaantha, shifting the project’s direction and causing tensions on the set. The narrative takes a darker turn when a sudden murder halts the production, bringing Inspector Devaraj into the picture. His investigation gradually exposes long-standing conflicts between the two main figures, making their history central to the case.

Dulquer Salmaan leads the cast as T. K. Mahadevan, with Samuthirakani portraying Ayya. Bhagyashri Borse and Rana Daggubati appear in key roles. Despite early speculation that the film might be inspired by the life of renowned actor-singer M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the makers clarified ahead of release that Kaantha is entirely fictional.

The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, art director Ramalingam, and music composer Jhanu Chanthar. The screenplay was co-developed with contributions from Thamizh Prabha, who also handled additional dialogues.

As Kaantha enters its fourth day today (17 November 2025), its box office trajectory through the weekdays will determine how strongly it can build on its opening weekend momentum. Further figures are awaited.
