Jyotika Once Earned Three Times More Than Suriya

Jyotika recently opened up about her marriage to Suriya and explained why she considers him the ultimate “green flag” husband.

Even after two decades of marriage, Suriya and Jyotika continue to set relationship goals. The couple remain each other’s biggest supporters and often speak about how happy they are to see one another grow personally and professionally.

Jyotika also played an important role in shaping Suriya’s career. She was the one who recommended his name to director Gautham Vasudev Menon for the 2003 action thriller Kaakha Kaakha. The film later became Suriya’s first major blockbuster as a solo hero.

At the time, Jyotika was already one of the leading stars in Tamil cinema, with several successful films to her credit.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the couple recalled that Jyotika was paid nearly three times more than Suriya during the early stages of their careers.

“Now, it is 30 times less,” Jyotika joked, leaving Suriya amused.

Speaking about her husband, Jyotika described him as a true green flag.

“He is remarkable as a man, as a husband and, of course, as an actor. There is a sense of equality in his mind, and I believe one has to be born with that. It has to come from within. Otherwise, it will not reflect in a person’s actions,” she said.

Jyotika added that equality at home is an important part of their relationship.

“You have to understand the woman who is with you. If she does not want to cook, let it be. I am not trying to sound like a feminist, but we are equals at home. That kind of thinking can only come from a genuine feeling deep within a man, and Suriya has it,” she said.

She also revealed that Suriya always shares household responsibilities.

“If I am cooking, he comes into the kitchen and cooks with me. We do everything together, from filmmaking and raising our children to going on holidays. I think we simply enjoy watching each other grow,” Jyotika said.

Suriya and Jyotika first worked together in director Vasanth’s Poovellam Kettuppar in 1999. They later appeared together in films such as Uyirile Kalanthathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.

The couple got married in 2006. Jyotika later took a break from films to focus on her family and made her comeback in 2015 with 36 Vayadhinile. Suriya and Jyotika have two children.
