JSW MG Motor India unveil Windsor ‘Commute’ taxi trim at Rs 13.49 lakh

New Delhi: JSW MG Motor India has quietly widened the Windsor EV portfolio with the unveiling of a fleet-focused ‘Commute’ variant, priced at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Made just for commercial buyers, the new trim undercuts the standard base Excite variant by Rs 61,000, making it a more cost-effective option for fleet operators.

In order to reduce the initial ownership cost even more,  MG is also extending its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model to the Commute variant. This would allow buyers to opt for battery rental in place of outright purchase.

The mechanical aspect remains unchanged as the Windsor Commute continues with the same 38kWh battery pack from the Excite trim, which has an ARAI-certified range of 332km. Charging times are the same as well, with a 7.4kW AC charger that can replenish the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in about 7 hours, and a 45kW DC fast charger can take it from 20 to 80 per cent in around 45 minutes.

MG Windsor Commute feature list

The Commute trim’s feature list differs slightly from the other trims. Outside is pretty much the same as it retains key elements like LED projector headlamps, flush door handles and ORVM-mounted turn indicators, but the sllowys are swapped for 17-inch steel wheels without covers.

For the interiors, the cabin is a simpler, lack-themed layout with fabric upholstery and gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster taken from the Excite trim. To make it cost-effective, though, the Commute doesn’t get the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In place of that, it comes with a basic audio unit with USB, FM and Bluetooth connectivity.

Despite coming as an entry-level feel model offering, the Windsor Commute gets things like cruise control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and multiple USB charging ports for both front and rear passengers, along with manual air-conditioning and power windows.

Rear-seat occupants also get reclining seats, enhancing comfort for longer journeys. For safety, the EV comes with four disc brakes, dual airbags, hill-hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and three-point seatbelts for all occupants. It joins the competition in the growing electric commuter fleet segment.
