In the video, she described the namaz as “silent worship”, to which people reacted sharply and accused her of ignoring the ground reality. In the video that is going viral online, Sherwani emphasizes the peaceful and undisturbed nature of Islamic worship.

“Think about the Friday prayers. It hardly takes 5 to 15 minutes to complete. There is no commotion. No noise. No disturbance to the neighbors. I think, namaz is one of the most silent prayers in the world, there is complete silence. Not a single word comes out of your mouth.”

This video immediately received a barrage of criticism. Several social media users noted the use of loudspeakers for azaan and namaz, saying the experience in many localities is in stark contrast to Sherwani’s claim of “complete silence”.

Describing years of trouble, one user wrote, “There was a mosque behind my house, hearing the sound of the loudspeaker 5 times a day and intermittently for a month during Ramzan, it was torture for our family. We have lived in Dockyard Road, Mumbai for 6 years.”
