Darwin, August 15: In a remarkable achievement during the Test match between Australia and Bangladesh, Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has claimed his 300th Test wicket.
This milestone was reached while playing in Darwin.
Hazlewood took 6 wickets for 89 runs in 28 overs during Bangladesh’s first innings. His fifth wicket marked the completion of his 300 Test wickets. This is the 14th time Hazlewood has taken 5 or more wickets in a single innings. He now has a total of 301 wickets from 77 matches and 144 innings, with his best bowling figures being 6 wickets for 61 runs.
With this achievement, Hazlewood becomes the ninth Australian bowler to reach the 300 Test wickets milestone. He joins the ranks of legendary bowlers such as Shane Warne (708), Nathan Lyon (568), Glenn McGrath (563), Mitchell Starc (435), Dennis Lillee (355), Pat Cummins (316), Mitchell Johnson (313), and Brett Lee (310). Currently, only Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are active alongside Hazlewood in the Australian Test team.
However, the match has not been favorable for Australia. They were bowled out for just 198 runs in their first innings, with Steve Smith scoring the highest at 71 runs. Hasan Mahmud from Bangladesh took 6 wickets, showcasing his bowling prowess.
Bangladesh dominated with the bat as well, scoring 426 runs in their first innings, giving them a significant lead of 228 runs, which could prove crucial in the match. Tanjid Hasan scored 101 runs, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84 runs, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 65 runs. Hasan’s century was his first and marked the highest score by a Bangladeshi batsman in a Test match in Australia.
Australia’s batting faltered again in their second innings, losing 3 wickets for just 100 runs in 27 overs at the time of reporting. Smith was batting at 37, while Cameron Green had scored 9 runs.
