Michigan relied heavily on sophomore running back Jordan Marshall during the tight 24-22 win over Northwestern. He ran for 142 yards and scored two touchdowns, but he injured his right shoulder in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Sherrone Moore said X-rays were negative, and Marshall should play against Maryland next week.
What Happened During Game?
Marshall dominated the first three quarters and kept Michigan in the game. Early in the fourth quarter, he broke free for a 24-yard run.
A tackle forced him to land awkwardly on his right shoulder, and he stayed on the ground in pain. He later walked off the field, but you could see he was hurting.
Michigan already shut down junior running back Justice Haynes for the rest of the season because of a foot injury. Losing Marshall even briefly added pressure on an already thin running back group.
Bryson Kuzdzal stepped in, but the offense stalled, and Michigan threw its fourth interception of the game.
Who Stepped Up After Marshall Left?
Kuzdzal carried the ball three times for 17 yards. He tried to steady the offense, but Michigan kept struggling. Meanwhile, Marshall stayed on the sideline without his helmet, and everyone waited for updates.
The team entered this game after a bye week hoping to recover, but injuries stayed a problem.
