PM Modi will be in Jordan on 15 and 16 December.
PM Modi Jordan Visit: The flag of Jordan is very special for Arab countries. This flag, made in a special design of four colors black, white, green and red cloth, represents the whole of Arabia. It reflects the struggle for independence of the Arabs against the Ottoman Empire. It is also a symbol of the unity and heritage of the Arabs. This special flag is considered a symbol of the Arab revolt. Let us find out why this is so? What is the story of this rebellion and what does each color of the flag mean?
It is the era of the First World War. The desire for independence from Ottoman rule had begun to stir in the minds of Arabs. On the other hand, the French and the British also wanted to see the Arabs under their control. For this it was necessary to weaken the Ottoman rule. Therefore, Britain instigated the Arabs to protest against the Ottoman Empire and promised them support. This led to a revolt by the Arabs against the Ottoman Empire, which sought independence as well as the establishment of a unified Arab state. Its main goal was to liberate the entire Arab land from Ottoman rule and establish the Arab Empire from Aleppo i.e. Syria to Aden i.e. Yemen.
Started by firing from the balcony
This revolt of the Arabs is also called the Great Arab Revolt or al-Thawra al-Arabiya. On June 10, 1916, this rebellion started from Mecca under the leadership of Sharif Hussain bin Ali. He started this rebellion by firing the first shot from his balcony. After this, his sons Prince Faisal and Abdullah took command of the army in the battlefield against the Ottoman rule. Initially it seemed that the rebellion would not succeed. On this, the British sent their army officer and intelligence agent Thomas Edward Lawrence to collect the report of the Arab rebellion.
Lawrence then united the Arabs divided into tribes. Made a war strategy against the Ottoman Empire. The result was that Arab armies captured the port of Aqaba and finally Damascus in October 1918. For helping the Arabs, Lawrence is known as Lawrence of Arabia or Lawrence of Arabia.
The black color of the top stripe in the flag of Jordan symbolizes the Abbasid Caliphate.
Still did not get complete freedom
The Arabs won the war but they could not get complete independence because France and Britain were already in ambush. Both the countries made an agreement among themselves and secretly divided the Middle East among themselves under the Sykes-Picot Agreement. Yet this rebellion played an important role in laying the foundation of many countries today like Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Flag adopted in the year 1928
It was during the Arab revolt that Sharif Hussain bin Ali made a banner of his own. For this, the then British diplomat Sir Mark Sykes prepared several designs. Ultimately the Arabs adopted a banner in which the entire Arab colors black, white, green and red were included. These colors were representative of different Arab dynasties and identities. When Sharif Hussein bin Ali’s son Abdullah was appointed ruler of Transjordan, a white seven-pointed star was added to the red triangle in the rebellion’s banner itself. This flag was adopted in the year 1928. Even after independence in 1946, it remained as the flag of Jordan.

This is the meaning of the colors of the flag
The black color of the top stripe in the flag of Jordan symbolizes the Abbasid Caliphate. It represents power as well as revolution. The white stripe in the middle represents the Umayyad Caliphate, which symbolizes a peaceful future and purity. The green stripe at the bottom represents the Fatimid Caliphate, which symbolizes Islam, prosperity and life. Apart from this, the Red Triangle reflects the bloody conflict between the ruling Hashemite dynasty of Jordan and the Arab revolt. The seven white stars symbolize the seven verses of the first Sura of the Quran (Al-Fatiha) and the unity of the Arabs.
