The future of has received a major clarity, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirming that talks are underway with Johnny Depp about a possible return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Speaking to Deadline, Bruckheimer said, “We’re talking with .” He added, “We’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
Bruckheimer has repeatedly expressed interest in bringing Depp back as the franchise’s iconic pirate, despite years of uncertainty surrounding the actor’s involvement. Disney had previously explored alternative directions for the franchise, including a separate project reportedly led by Margot Robbie. However, Bruckheimer has maintained that Robbie remains involved while also working on a new version of Pirates that could feature returning stars.

Depp’s potential comeback comes as the actor gradually returns to major Hollywood projects following years away from mainstream blockbusters. He is expected to appear in Ebeneezer, a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, alongside Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint and Andrea Riseborough.
While Depp’s return as the central protagonist is not confirmed, reports suggest that he could potentially appear in a supporting capacity. Bruckheimer had previously indicated that some familiar Pirates of the Caribbean actors would return for the next instalment, while describing the film as a “new take” on the franchise. Orlando Bloom has also expressed enthusiasm about Depp potentially returning.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise began in 2003 with , which established Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow as one of modern cinema’s most recognisable characters. Four more films followed, with the latest, Dead Men Tell No Tales, releasing in 2017.
With a screenplay currently being developed and discussions with Depp taking place, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 finally appears to be moving closer to reality, though an official release date and confirmed cast are still awaited.
