Colombo’s R. Joe Root batted at number 3 in the third ODI being played at Premadasa Stadium. He completed his 20th century by taking a single on the second ball of the 45th over. Root faced 100 balls for this century. With this performance, he became England’s batsman with the most centuries in ODIs.
Eoin Morgan’s name comes after Root in the list of batsmen who have scored the most centuries in ODIs for England. Morgan had scored 13 centuries in 225 matches in his 13-year-long ODI career. Opening batsman Jason Roy and former opener Marcus Trescothick, who are out of the team, have 12 centuries each in ODIs. At the same time, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler have scored 11 centuries each in the 50 over format for the England team that won the 2019 ODI World Cup.
