When and how to remove the thread after the fast?
This thread is removed only after the completion of Jitiya fast. The thread should not be removed before the fast is completed, because it is an integral part of the fast. After the fast is over, mothers can devoutly remove this thread with their throat or hand. While removing this thread, you should wish for longevity and welfare of children in the mind.

Where to immerse the thread after the fast?
- Immersion in the river or pond- The best place to immerse Jitiya thread is the water of a holy river or pond. According to religious beliefs, the positive energy contained in this thread returns to nature by immersing it into water. While flowing it, one should pray to Lord Surya and Jeevaputrika Devi for her children.
- Near the Peepal tree- if there is no river or pond around you, you can place this thread under the Peepal tree. The Peepal tree is considered sacred and it is considered similar to Devasthan. By placing a thread near the root of the tree, the virtuous fruit of the fast is obtained.
What not to do after Jitiya fast?
- Do not throw in the dustbin: Jitiya thread should never be thrown at a garbage or unholy place. It is considered an insult to the sanctity and faith of the fast. By doing this, the fruit of the fast can be destroyed.
- Do not keep in the house: This thread should not be kept in any corner of the house for long. It should be duly immersed immediately after the fast.
- Do not burn: According to religious beliefs, it is not considered appropriate to burn any revered object. Avoid burning the thread.
