Jitiya vrat 2025: Jitiya fast has special significance in Hinduism. Especially in North India, Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, this fast is observed with great reverence. Jitiya fast is considered to be the biggest resolution of mothers in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. This fast, which is kept on the Krishna Paksha Ashtami of Ashadh month, will take place on 14 September 2025 this year. Doubt about the dates of Jitiya fast 2025
This time there is doubt about the dates regarding Jitiya fast. Actually, the coincidence of Ashtami and Navami Tithi in 2025 is being formed on 13 and 14 September. According to the almanac, Jivitputrika fast will be kept on September 14 and it will be passed on 15 September.
Nahai-Khay (13 September 2025)
Before the fast starts, mothers take a bath and take pure food. This is called Nahai-Khay. On this day simple but holy food is eaten like gram-rice, ghee vegetable or oatmeal. It is believed that this food gives the power to fast on the next day.
Fasting and worship method (14 September 2025)
On this day, mothers fast for Nirjala throughout the day i.e. neither water nor food. In the evening, special worship of Jitiya Mata, Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati is done. According to the tradition, the story of Jimutavahana, eagle and jackal is heard, which is considered a symbol of sacrifice and son -protection. Deep, incense, fruit -flower and special dishes are offered in Puja. Mothers take the resolution and take the name of their son and wish him to protect and long life.
Paran (15 September 2025)
The next morning, fast is observed in the auspicious time. First, the lamps and characters used in worship are removed properly and then passed with light food. Traditionally, lentils, rice, kheer, nony greens, Sattputia vegetable and Marua bread are consumed. The son’s longevity is also wished during the time.
The beginning and fasting rules of the fast
Jitiya fast begins with the night of Saptami. On this day, Vrati means that mothers eat without salt and fast on the next day i.e. Ashtami fast. In this fast, neither water is consumed nor a touch of food. This fasting is considered to be austerity for mothers.
Worship method
On the day of Ashtami, mothers take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. After this, a statue of maternal and Jivitputrika is made from the soil or worshiped on the picture. Mother is worshiped with incense, lamps, flowers, akshat and roli. Women listen to the story of Jivitputrika by resolve to fast all day and pray for the long life of the child.
Fasting story
The story related to Jitiya Vrat is very famous. It is said that a woman named Netravati fasted to protect her son. Impressed by his devotion, Yamraj blessed his son for longevity. Since then, this fast started to be kept for the longevity and security of the child.
Paran method
Fasting is observed after sunrise on Navami. Paran has special significance because after being unhappy and waterless the whole day, mothers perform fast with this process. Special rules are considered at the time of passing. First of all, Vrati takes a bath and wears clean clothes. After this, the lamp is lit and kept near the place of worship. The special thing is that fasting is not only by eating grains, but it is mandatory to consume a special dish like jaggery, gram or fruit in it. Only after this normal food is consumed.

Traditionally, mothers observe this fast only for the son. But in many places, now this belief is also increasing that whether it is a mother or a daughter, it can observe this fast for the long life and welfare of both.
