New Delhi: Jeep has revealed the first photos of the upcoming generation of the Cherokee, before its debut later in the year. It marks a comeback for the Cherokee, which had been discontinued in 2023 after a decade of production and will sit between the Compass and Grand Cherokee in the brand’s global line-up.
The upcoming generation adheres to Jeep’s design language, which was imprinted in the recently seen third generation of the Compass. On the front, the Cherokee gets the hallmark Jeep seven-slot grille, with large rectangular headlights with an extended section for the indicators. There is a lot of black plastic filling on the front bumper, along with silver inserts on either side and an air dam at the bottom.
The upcoming Jeep Cherokee comes with new alloy wheels, and “Cherokee” lettering on the front doors and blacked-out roof and pillars. Jeep hasn’t revealed the photos of the Jeep’s back. However, given how the new Compass looks, it is likely to feature a rectangular light bar. Jeep hasn’t released photographs of the interior either, but it is expected to come with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, an all-digital instrument cluster and a redesigned touchbar for climate controls.
Jeep Grand Cherokee to get hybrid powertrain
The new Cherokee also profits from Stellantis’ new STLA Large platform, which allows for hybrid, petrol and all-electric configurations. Jeep has, though, confirmed just the hybrid powertrain for Cherokee, with the rest of the details still not confirmed. The pure-petrol and EV versions are also likely to be joining the Cherokee options, with the latter trim sharing mechanics from the Wagoneer S electric SUV, which features a 100 kWh battery and dual motor.
It is anticipated that the output will fall short of the 600 horsepower of the Wagoneer S. The 3.0-litre ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbo inline-6 engine from Jeep, which produces 548 horsepower and 707 Nm in its most powerful configuration, may be used in the internal combustion engine for the Cherokee.
The Jeep Cherokee is going to be unveiled in later parts of 2025, with global market launches expected to start in 2026. The Cherokee’s arrival in the Indian market is unlikely. Too many options fill Jeep’s Cherokee market in India.
