New Delhi: After Sunil Gavaskar, another Indian veteran has questioned and criticised Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management in the recently-concluded Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. Citing the same reason, Bumrah was not part of the crucial fifth and final Test match against England, which was won in a emphatic fashion by India.
Despite being India’s number one bowler and one of the best in the world, Bumrah has received some big criticism from the cricketing fraternity for keeping his workload over the country’s honour. As it was pre-decided, Bumrah ended up playing just three Test matches in the five-game series and in his absence, Mohammed Siraj stepped up as the lead pacer.
Will the physio decide?
Meanwhile, the latest person to have taken a dig at the same is former Indian all-rounder and BCCI selector Sandeep Patil, who considers the theory nonsense. As per a report published on Mid-day, Patil said that he wonders how the BCCI is agreeing to all this.
‘I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this. Is the physio more important than the captain, than the head coach? What about selectors? Are we to expect that the physio will be sitting in selection committee meetings now. Will he decide?’ Patil told.
The former cricketer also said that when a player is picked for the country, he dies for the country because he is a warrior. Giving the example of legendary Sunil Gavaskar, Patil said that he has seen him batting for all the five days in a Test match. Giving another example of the legendary Kapil Dev, he said that he used to bowl on most days of match and even bowl to the batters in nets. These players never asked for breaks and never complained.
