Jasprit Bumrah To Miss Asia Cup 2025? Here’s What We Know

Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, claimed media reports. It remains uncertain if Bumrah will participate since the Test series against West Indies begins shortly after the Asia Cup concludes on September 29. The first Test against West Indies is scheduled for October 2 in Ahmedabad, followed by a second match in New Delhi from October 10-14.

If Bumrah plays in the Asia Cup and India reaches the final, it would be difficult for him to play against West Indies immediately after. The source added that Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir must decide whether Bumrah should rest during the Asia Cup or play against South Africa later.

Jasprit Bumrah was recently released from the national squad after fulfilling his role in three out of the five Tests against England. The 31-year-old pacer delivered 119.4 overs and claimed 14 wickets during these matches. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his release for the fifth Test.

Bumrah’s performance included two five-wicket hauls, one at Headingley and another at Lord’s. However, he conceded over 100 runs in a single innings for the first time in Manchester. His current Test record stands at 219 wickets from 48 matches.

Before India’s tour to England, chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar had stated that Jasprit Bumrah would not play more than three Tests to manage his workload.

Upcoming Assignments

In November, India will face South Africa in two Tests. A BCCI source mentioned that Bumrah’s love for Test cricket and the World Test Championship points make it a challenging decision regarding his participation. “It will be a tricky call but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake,” said the source.
