New Delhi: On his milestone 150th match for Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah endured his longest barren streak in the Indian Premier League with his fifth wicketless outing on Thursday.
Bumrah‘s previous longest dry spell was four matches in the tournament’s 2014 edition but with 0/41 in four overs in their seven-wicket loss against Punjab Kings his wicketless streak extended to five matches in 2026.
The right armer has bowled 114 deliveries in this edition without taking a wicket, with his poor run of form extending to a match in which he became the pacer to play 150 matches for a team in IPL.
With 183 wickets, he has helped Mumbai win a joint record five titles and joined Rohit Sharma (231) and Kieron Pollard (189) on the list of 150 caps.
Only Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine (195) has more wickets than Bumrah for a single franchise.
‘Misleading’
Bumrah’s former India team-mate Ravichandran Ashwin has pointed out that the seamer lack of wickets narrative is misleading even though he accepted that it could hurt Mumbai’s fortunes.
“The lack of wickets narrative for Bumrah can hamper the teams cause! Him nailing yorkers and choking the opposition for every single run is even more important than him looking to get wickets, especially in venues like the Wankhede,” Ashwin wrote on X.
“When you can’t bowl overs on the trot, your wicket-taking ability depends on your partners who hand the over to you. We have had so many years of T20 cricket now & bowling in partnerships as a defensive group is still a seed in the minds of bowling groups.”
