Jasprit Bumrah IN, 8 Players OUT: India’s Likely Playing XI For 1st T20I Against Australia

Team India couldn’t win the ODI series against Australia, but they probably got the answer to the toughest question they were facing: Are Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli still good enough?

The veterans powered India to a brilliant win in Sydney, with Rohit scoring his sixth ODI hundred in the country, and Virat Kohli proving his class with a stunning 74. The focus now shifts to the five-match T20I series, starting October 29 in Manuka Oval, Canberra.

Only eight players who were part of the ODI squad will stay in Australia for the T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in the series and will look to avenge the defeat in the ODI series. The series stands of utmost importance for both teams, with the T20 World Cup lined up next year in India and Sri Lanka.

India’s Likely Playing XI For 1st T20I

Shubman Gill was preferred over Sanju Samson as an opener in the Asia Cup and should continue playing at the top along with Abhishek Sharma. Tilak Varma can play at three, followed by Suryakumar Yadav at four. It will be a toss-up between Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma for the wicketkeeper slot, and since Samson burned his chances in the Asia Cup, India could start with Jitesh.

Both Shivam Dube and Nitish Reddy should be able to make the playing XI in the first T20I, allowing India to go in with a spin-heavy attack. Axar Patel should be picked as the spin all-rounder over Washington Sundar, while Varun Chakravarthy should pip Kuldeep Yadav for a place in the playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah is certain to make the playing XI, while he should have Arshdeep Singh to share the new ball.
