Jannik Sinner Backs Carlos Alcaraz’s Buzzcut After Frances Tiafoe’s ‘Terrible’ Dig, But Won’t Risk It Himself

Carlos Alcaraz’s buzzcut created quite a stir among tennis players and fans, with Frances Tiafoe sarcastically calling it ‘terrible’, but Jannik Sinner gave a more diplomatic answer when asked to comment on the Spaniard’s new look.

While Sinner won’t dare to take such a haircut, he said that it suits  well.

“No, [I wouldn’t want one myself], but honestly I think everything suits him,” said on Tuesday. “It grows very fast, so it’s going to be all aligned in two days. But it suits him. Even like this, it looks good. Even when he has longer hair, it suits.”

Sinner and Alcaraz breezed past their opponents in the opening round of the US Open. Alcaraz had a tough opening draw against Reilly Opelka, but he was up for the challenge and won in straight sets. Sinner, on the other hand, dropped just four games en route to a crushing win over Vit Kopriva.

The top two-ranked players played the final at Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier this year, and the odds of another mouth-watering encounter at Flushing Meadows are quite high. Their only previous clash at the US Open came in 2022 when Alcaraz saved match points to beat Sinner.

‘Told My Parents I Would Quit Tennis’

Sinner, who has four Grand Slams to his name, had big ambitions, but financial struggles were a big roadblock. Sinner recently revealed that he told his parents he would quit tennis if he didn’t break into the top 200 before turning 24, and look where he ended up.

“I told my parents that if I was not ranked under 200 at the age of 23 or 24, I would stop playing tennis. Because we could not afford it, you know. It costs a lot of money to travel around for tournaments, to have a coach. I was very lucky that I started to earn my money at around 18, and I felt safe. When you are young, you dream, you do not even believe it,” Sinner said.
