This Janmashtami is just a lapse, and your devotion will become sin
Janmashtami 2025: Special worship, bhajan-kirtan and fasting are organized in temples, houses and workplaces on the holy festival Shri Krishna Janmashtami. Devotees pay flowers, fruits, clothes, incense-lamps, naivedya and immense reverence to their presiding deity. But do you know that the entire result of your worship can be destroyed by a serious mistake? The scriptures even consider it to be a virtuous murder and this defect is the insult.
On Janmashtami, devotees offer grand worship of Lord Krishna, but there is a mention of a lapse in the scriptures that can inadvertently turn your devotion into sin. This is the fault of improper use of temple’s displeasure. There is a clear warning in the scriptures that this act not only gives inauspicious results, but can also take away the grace of God. Let us know why and how to do the correct farewell to Nirmalyya according to the scriptures.
What is Nirmanya?
In the Sanatan tradition, Nirmalyya means worship material offered to God, such as flowers, Tulsidal, Naivedya, Clothing, etc., which have become pure by the touch of the Lord after worship. It is considered not only the material, but a prasad of Bhagavatstachary, in which divine energy resides. Scriptures clearly say
“Nirvalayanya Yat Prasadhyam Tat Sakshat Hari Vigrahaim”
Meaning- The one who is called Nirmalya is the form of God.
Nirmanya insults defect, how becomes invisible sin
Today, a dangerous scene is common in cities and villages. Flowers and garlands from temples and sculptures appear in dusions, in drains or on the streets. Sometimes these holy objects are trampled under the feet, sometimes they keep rotting in plastic bags. Somewhere there are bottles of liquor with broken idols, then some dogs are doing excreta on them. This is the insult to be a self-made curse that we ourselves call our home.
Scripture
Skanda Purana (Kashi Khand): An insult to Niralya is hell and destroys fathers.
Manusmriti (5.125): He who despises the objects after naivedya and after worship becomes a part of sin
Garuda Purana: A person ignoring Niralya faces sorrows in life
According to these texts, this defect not only prevents spiritual progress, but also creates invisible obstacles in the path of devotion.
Saint Shri Premanand Maharaj Ji says – Why is flower immersion important part of devotion?
In his various discourses, Saint Shri Premanand Maharaj Ji has clarified that after worshiping the flowers etc., the Nirmana should be chanting the name of Radha in a reasonable depth on the banks of the Yamuna river. After some time from this process, these sacred objects merge into the five elements by natural biological decomposition. At the same time, the devotee who immerse Nirvalya with the attainment of water of holy rivers like Ganga-Yamuna, gives an internal purification and spiritual peace. Flowers are the gift of nature and nature is the nature of God. When you offer flowers, it should also be gratitude to nature. The material used in worship under the feet can harm virtue.
Example of Jagannath Puri
Jagannath Puri temple has a special place called Koili Baikuntha, where broken idols are duly immersed. The Nirmalya here is considered to be the door of Mahaprasad sins and the door to salvation.
From flowers to divine: Trikala darshan of devotion
The importance of flowers in worship is not only beauty, but it is a symbol of three stages.
- Selection – I only offer serene feelings to God
- Arpan – My ego dedicated to the Lord’s feet
- Immersion – the renunciation of fascination and complete absorbing into the Lord
It is believed that if the third phase, that is, there is no proper immersion, then the spiritual balance of the entire worship deteriorates.
The correct method of immersion of nirmalya
Grihayasutra, Skanda Purana and other scriptures say
Offer Nirmalyya in a methodical manner in the Ganges, a holy river, fire or land.
If you cannot go to the river, then put Ganga water in the earthen pot in the house and keep it in it, which will become organic manure.
Say this mantra at the time of immersion along the river.
“Prithivyai Namah.
Why is it even more important on Janmashtami?
The festival of Janmashtami itself is the incarnation day of Lord Krishna. Each worship done on this day, each offering, and every devotion-karma is considered special virtuous. But the scriptures say that if the disinterest is insulted on this day, then that virtue can be destroyed. Even if there is an insult with disgrace, then immediately improve immersion in the river, to get into the land, or take appropriate measures with the guidance of a knowledgeable Pandit. But it is believed that intentionally ignoring, this is the real sin. Do not only offer this Janmashtami, God, respect his offering. Only then your devotion and practice will be considered complete.
