Janmashtami Date 2025: Krishna Janmashtami is one of the major festivals of Hinduism, which is celebrated with pomp across the country. Every year this festival falls on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhado month. It is celebrated as the birthday of Shri Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There is a tradition of celebrating the festival of Janmashtami for two days. Religious belief is that on the first day, saints and monks celebrate Janmashtami, while on the second day Vaishnava sect and Brijwasi celebrate this festival. This time too, this festival will be celebrated for two days.
When is Janmashtami 2025?
According to the Panchang, the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month will start at 11:49 am on August 15. At the same time, this date will conclude on August 16 at 9:34 pm. In such a situation, on the basis of Udaya Tithi, Janmashtami is on 16 August. On August 15, people of Smarta sect will celebrate the festival of Krishna Janmashtami, while Vaishnavajan will celebrate Janmashtami on August 16.

The auspicious time of worship on Janmashtami will start from 12:04 minutes in the early hours of August 16 to 12:47 minutes. In such a situation, you will get a total of 43 minutes for worship.
Birth of Shri Krishna in Rohini Nakshatra
According to mythological beliefs, Lord Krishna was born in Rohini Nakshatra at midnight on Ashtami Tithi. For this reason, on the same day when Ashtami Tithi falls at midnight, it is auspicious to fast and worship Janmashtami on the same day. However, you can celebrate Janmashtami on 15 or 16 August according to your tradition and beliefs.
How to worship Lord Krishna at night?
On the day of Janmashtami, the method of worshiping Lord Krishna at night is given below-
1. Bath:- At 12 o’clock at night, bathe Shri Krishna’s statue or Laddu Gopal with Panchamrit. If there is a conch, you can bathe it too.
2. Makeup:- After bathing, wear new clothes to Shri Krishna, make up with sandalwood vaccine, perfume, peacock feathers, flute and Tulsi Dal etc.
3. Swing:- Sit the Lord in the swing and bow the swing, saying “Nand ki joy bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki”.
4. Bhog:- Offer Makhan-Mishri, Regari, Fruit, Sweets and Tulsi Dal to Lord Krishna on Janmashtami.
5. Aarti:- Then perform the Aarti of God and chant the mantra “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Ram Ram Hare Hare”.
7. Fasting Paran:- If you have fasted, then after worshiping, receive the prasad and pass the fast.
