Krishnadev Yagnik lived up to the expectations people had from Vash 2. The Gujarati film starring Hiten Kumar, Hitu Kanodia, Janki Bodiwala and Monal Gajjar released in Gujarati and Hindi nationwide on August 27 and proved that content is king.
With critical acclaim and commercial success, the psychological thriller became the talk of the town. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Krishnadev opened up about the casting process for the franchise.
Janki Bodiwala never told her parents about acting in Vash
Janki, who won a National Award for Vash, hadn’t told her parents about signing the film, revealed Yagnik. He said, “Janki is a mature actor aur voh apna decision khud le sakti hai. Usne apne parents ko bataya bhi nahi tha ki voh Vash kar rahi hai. Jab trailer aaya, tab unke parents ko jhatka laga. Janki ke papa ka phone bhi aaya tha ki kuch alag hi ho gaya. Unhone jab premiere pe film dekha toh bohot enjoy kiya. Janki ke parents ke aankhon se aasu nikal gaye the.”
(Translation: Janki is a mature actor and can make her own decisions. In fact, she had not told her parents about signing Vash. When the trailer released, her parents were shocked. Janki’s father called me saying it was something different. They enjoyed the film at its premiere. Janki’s parents had tears in their eyes while watching Vash.)
Challenges faced during Vash 2
Discussing the challenges faced during Vash 2, the director added, “Part one aasani se ban gayi kyunki actors script sunte hi excite ho gaye. Vash 2 mein ek Aarya nahi 200 Aarya hai. Jab casting shuru kiya tab ladkiyon ke parents ko hume batana pada ki story kya hai aur ladkiyan kya karne wali hai. NOC liye parents se aur kuch ne mana kar diya. Parents aur ladkiyon ka consent zaruri tha. Sochiye ki 10 ladkiyan hai jinhone kabhi stunt nahi kiya. Stunt artistes ko khada karta toh stunt kar leti, perform nahi. Mujhe dono chahiye tha. Unko harness pehenke stunt bhi karna hai aur perform bhi. Acche se kar diya ladkiyon ne. Sabse bada challenge toh yehi tha Vash 2 mein.”
(Translation: Part one was made easily because the actors were excited to do the film. There is not just one Aarya, but 200 of them in Vash 2. When we started casting, we had to inform the parents of the young girls. We took NOC from them and some refused to allow their daughters to do Vash 2. Imagine 10 girls who never did action had to jump off the terrace. I had the option of using stunt artistes but they can’t perform. I wanted stunt and performance. It is challenging to perform wearing a harness. The girls did a great job. This was the only challenge we faced during the shoot.)
Directed and written by Krishnadev and produced by Kalpesh Soni, Krunal Soni, and co-produced by Nilay Chotai and Dhruv Patel, Vash 2 has collected over Rs 9 crore at the box office.
