Who is CP Radhakrishnan?

The full name of CP Radhakrishnan is Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan. He was born in the Kongag Vellalar Gounder community in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. He gave V.O., located in Roathukudi, Tamil Nadu BBA degree in Business Administration from Chidambaram College.

Radhakrishnan started actively participating in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh or RSS at the age of 17. He was elected to the State Executive Committee of Jana Sangh in 1974. Radhakrishnan’s political journey is longer than 4 decades. He has played important roles at both regional and national levels.

CP Radhakrishnan’s political career

  • Radhakrishnan started his political life in the 1970s with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He became the founding member of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
  • He was elected to the State Executive Committee of Jana Sangh in 1974. Played a initial role in shaping the BJP’s strategies in Tamil Nadu.
  • Radhakrishnan made an identity by winning the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seats in 1998 and 1999. This was BJP’s first major success in Tamil Nadu.
  • He served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textile. Along with this, he participated in major committees related to the investigation into finance, public sector undertakings and stock exchange scam.
  • The UN General Assembly was part of the delegation of India in 2004. The first parliamentary delegation in Taiwan was included.
  • Radhakrishnan was the President of Tamil Nadu BJP from 2004-2007. The 19,000 km of “Rath Yatra” was taken out across the state.
  • He failed in the Lok Sabha elections of 2004, 2014 and 2019, but remained a big BJP leader in South India.
  • Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand in February 2023. He visited all 24 districts in the first four months of his tenure.
  • He became the Governor of Maharashtra till July 2024. Along with this, additional charge of Telangana Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry also took over.
