Jamshedpur FC has officially declared its intention to withdraw from the Indian Super League (ISL) beginning with the 2026-27 season.
This announcement was made by Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), the Tata Steel-owned organization managing the club. Although Jamshedpur FC will step back from the ISL, JFSPL emphasized its ongoing commitment to fostering football development in India through various other initiatives.
Commitment to Football Development
JFSPL reiterated its dedication to advancing football in India, stating, “We will continue to promote and develop the game, particularly at the grassroots level. Our focus will be on identifying and nurturing young football talent across the nation, creating a robust pathway for aspiring players to progress to national and international levels.”
The organization also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the passionate fans of Jamshedpur FC, who have filled the JRD Tata Sports Complex with enthusiasm over the past decade, transforming it into a vibrant venue. They thanked all players, staff, coaches, and supporters who contributed to the club’s success since its establishment in 2017, and conveyed their appreciation for the support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Recent Performance and Club History
Currently, Jamshedpur FC is competing in the Durand Cup, having started their campaign with an impressive 5-0 win against Defenders FC from the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. However, it is unclear if the club will fulfill its remaining matches, with the next game set against SC Delhi on August 2. In the previous ISL season, Jamshedpur finished fifth.
The club entered the Indian Super League for the 2017-18 season alongside Bengaluru FC. Over their nine years in the league, Jamshedpur’s most notable achievement was winning the ISL League Shield during the 2021-22 season under coach Owen Coyle. They also reached the ISL playoffs once more in the 2024-25 season with Khalid Jamil at the helm.
