When the mountain was buried under the weight of Hanumanji
According to mythology, in Tretayuga, when Lakshman ji had become unconscious due to the attack of Meghnad, Hanuman ji was going to collect Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas to save his life. On the way, he saw the Yaksha sage doing penance below the sky path. It is said that Hanuman ji had descended to Jakhu mountain to get accurate information about Sanjivani Booti and to take some rest. It is believed that at that time the height of this mountain was very high, but as soon as Hanuman ji stepped on it, due to his huge weight this mountain got half buried in the ground. This is the reason why this mountain still appears flat from above.
The footprints are still safe today
The place where the footprints of Bajrangbali remain is still safe in the premises of Jakhu temple. Devotees worship these footprints. Local people believe that Hanuman ji had promised to meet the sage Yaksha while returning, but due to lack of time, he took another route. Later he appeared to the sage and an idol of his appeared here.
