New Delhi: In a tragic accident, a 28-year-old worker died of electrocution on the sets of the upcoming Tamil film Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, on Thursday (May 14). The accident happened at a private studio in Panaiyur in Chennai, police said. The deceased has been identified as Karthikeyan.
What led to the tragic death of the crew member?
According to a preliminary report, the crew member Karthikeyan suffered a fatal electric shock while working in art direction work. Police said he was erecting a house-like set for the movie’s shoot. While FIR has not been filed, further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
The incident occurred just weeks after the production house of Jailer 2 Sun Pictures announced that they have wrapped filming. The makers even shared pictures of the wrap-up party on social media. In the pictures, Rajnikanth and director Nelson were seen cutting the cake with the cast and crew of the film.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is the much-awaited sequel to the filmmaker’s 2023 blockbuster hit, Jailer. The film grossed Rs 600 crore worldwide. The production of the film is underway since 2025. However, the film faced a hurdle after a clip from Jailer 2 was leaked on social media, and it circulated like wildfire. Following this, Sun Pictures warned social media users from circulating the leak video in a statement which read, “Our anti-piracy team is actively monitoring the situation and will be taking necessary action to remove such content, including initiating measures against accounts involved in sharing or promoting these clips.”
“We kindly request members of the media and fans club to refrain from using, sharing, or reposting this video, in order to avoid any potential suspension or restrictions on their accounts. Please note that the production will not be held responsible for any such actions taken or to retrieve the accounts. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” it further added.
Talking about the release date, the film is likely to release on its scheduled release date, June 12, 2026 as the production work is still pending. Sun Pictures are yet to announce a new release date.
Meanwhile, the film also features Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, and Jackie Shroff, among others. Actors Vinayakan, Vasanth Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sunil.
